MORE LIKE GUIDELINES
RULES

• The character limit is currently set to seven per player, and we're not going to allow you to role hog. (Example: You can't play nothing but vampires, or nothing but shapeshifters. We'd like you to have at least one human character.)

• Do not god-mod, ever. The mods will be keeping an eye on everyone, so if we catch it, we'll send you a warning. If you do it again, we'll kick you in the head.

• We know spelling and grammar isn't always perfect, but an attempt at it is always a good way to keep us mods from sending you links to Firefox's handy-dandy spell-checker. Click here for an illustrated tutorial.

• Please avoid trying to slip an unoriginal OC past us. If we catch you trying to get in some shady rip-off of some X-Men character, or even of a canon True Blood character, we're going to reject your application without question.

• No double PBs. If you want to use an actor or actress who's already being used in this game, be sure to discuss the possibility of identical twins. Or just scrap the idea altogether.

• Stay in-character. Whatever you've written for your OC, you should stick to that general area, though we do strongly encourage character development.

• All posts, with the exception of your applications and the storylines and OOC communities, must be friends locked and tagged. Friends locking is to avoid any drama involving someone outside of the game from stealing our players' work. Tagging your entries allows the moderators to keep track of activity. If you don't tag, you aren't active. Click here for an illustrated tutorial.

• We ask that all players be at least 16 years of age due to the dark concepts Children of Fate is built around. Rape, incest, gore, and abuse are all acceptable in this game because of its basic premise, so it's natural that we be selective of the age group that come into our game. True Blood is an HBO series, after all.

FAQ

1. What year is this set in?
Our time, so if it's July 21, 2010 for us it's July 21, 2010 for them. Everything that has happened thus far in the True Blood series is considered canon.

2. What are the communities?
They are where all of our gameplay takes place.
~fatenet is where all of your character's first person journal entries go. This system is used due to an ever-growing annoyance from the mods with the friends button and a general case of laziness. It's like a social network for the residents of Paradise Falls.

~fatelogs will be where your characters interact in person in the form of threads or scenes. Remember that all entries on both the logs and network communities must be friends only. The moderators will go through and delete all unlocked entries and issue you a warning.

~fateooc is, as its name suggests, a place where all your OOC adventures may take place. You can give us playlists, inform us when you'll be going on hiatuses, introduce yourself and your characters – whatever you want to do, you may do it in the OOC community. (Note this does not extend to crack roleplay.)

~fatesls can be used to establish pre-game character relationships (CR).

3. What if I want to play a canon character from the show?
Because Children of Fate is set in California, which is quite a ways from Louisiana, and we wanted to take a different approach on True Blood. By making this game an original setting with the series' canon as a backdrop, we are giving players a chance to play a Vampire in a world where they don't have to hide or lurk about at night. Or sparkle in the sunlight and get pimp slapped for being a whiny emo boy.

4. I want my OC to be more powerful than Eric Northman/Bill Compton/Sookie Stackhouse.
That's very cute and we're glad that you have such ambitions. However, it won't fly. We'll accept that some OCs may actually be more powerful than individual characters, such as a 300-year-old vampire being more powerful than a single werewolf. We do not accept that they'll be more powerful than, say, Eric Northman due to the fact that there is canon evidence supporting how insanely powerful he is in accordance to his age. The same goes for your 16-year-old OC who thinks they can take on a group of vampires unscathed, or your werewolf who thinks they can take out the Paradise Falls police force.

In short: some things just won't happen, so go to a mod before you try anything to this effect.

5. Anna Paquin portrays Sookie Stackhouse in the series, but since canon characters aren't allowed here, I'd like to use her for an OC of mine. Is this okay?
Yes, but please be extra careful that you do not end up playing Sookie Stackhouse anyway. Meaning that you can probably get away with making Anna a vampire, a shapeshifter, or a normal human being – but if you give her telepathy or any other of her mentioned abilities, the character will not be accepted.

6. I joined the storylines community and another player and I came up with a plot involving one of my OCs taking out the Vampire King of California AND/OR something equally as insane and not okay!
The answer to this should go without saying. No way in hell will that be acceptable.

7. So my OC is the son/daughter OR the secret progeny of Eric Northman/Bill Compton/et cetera...
Unless they've been established in canon (re: Pam for Eric), it won't happen. Even so, they must have a very, very good reason as to why they aren't with their maker.

8. How do plots work around here?
You know how in the series the characters all seem to have their own personal plots that somehow come together, one way or another, in the main line? That's how we'd like to play this out. We moderators will do our very best to keep track of everyone's characters and attempt to hit you up for your characters' involvement in bigger plots. If you're having trouble coming up with something, just watch an episode of True Blood or Buffy the Vampire Slayer don't be afraid to ask anyone for help in the OOC or storylines community.

Please contact a moderator if you have any questions concerning our most recent plots.

9. So I can bring 'special' people. What kind?
Obviously, Vampires, shifters, and were creatures are welcome here. Unfortunately, due to the moderators' own personal tastes and seeing some pretty silly things in the past, we'd like to ask that you try to stray as far from the realm of the ridiculous as you can. This means that if you play a were creature, make sure you try to keep it at least moderately traditional (as in, wolves! We like wolves.) If you absolutely must play a Seychelles Sheath-tailed Bat... just go with a shifter instead of a werebat or something. You get it.

When it comes to telepaths, empaths, and whatever other power you can think of, again, keep it as realistic as you can. At some point, we moderators will enforce population control wherein you do not pass go or collect $200 with these kinds of kids. According to Charlaine Harris, half-demons and other such creatures do exist. So go for it! And if you aren't sure, you can, as always, ask a moderator. We're really very nice. And very sexy.

10. Can I bring in a fairy?
At this time, we do not allow full-blooded fairies into the game, solely because we're not quite big enough or diverse enough to do so. Until we get a balance of human, Vampire, shapeshifter, and werewolf, we will not be considering pure fairies to add to the mix. But we do allow half-bloods and people otherwise descendant of fairies!
